When we think of Kung Fu we often think of those amazing Shaolin monks performing flying kicks, landing in the splits and breaking bricks on their heads! But there's a lot more to Kung Fu than that. First and foremost a really good style should be accessible to all, old and young alike - all the moves should be adaptable to suit ALL ages and ability levels. Secondly, health is vital - it's no good practicing something that's going to damage you.

Shaolin Kung Fu (kung fu means skill won through hard work) began when Bodhidharma, a visiting master from India, taught the monks of the Shaolin Temple some health enhancing exercises in order to balance their sedentary and introspective lifestyle. The self defence aspect developed much later.

Fei-Yan Chuan upholds these principles and is also influenced heavily by later evolutions through the Wudang and inner styles of kung fu. Though it may be used effectively for self defence its primary purpose is to promote and maintain suppleness, agility, mobile joints, breathing, good posture, balance and stamina.

The various bare hand and weapons routines promote healthy qi and are great fun for EVERYONE to learn and perform.
